70 Successful Years of BMI eG

IHK Honors BMI eG for 70 Years of Contribution to Lower Bavarian Economy

Landshut, December 12, 2022. On November 30, 2022, representatives from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) for Lower Bavaria presented an honorary certificate to Bayerische Milchindustrie eG (BMI) for its 70th anniversary and its significant contributions to the Lower Bavarian economy. Hans Graf (IHK Vice President) and Marc-André Alram (IHK Regional Supervisor) presented the certificate to BMI CEO Dr. Thomas Obersojer and his fellow board member Winfried Meier.

BMI boasts an eventful history. In the early 1950s, as Bavarian milk production surged while per capita fresh milk consumption declined, BMI’s founding members recognized the need to process the surplus milk. They established their cooperative to collectively tackle this challenge. Strategically, the company focused on producing skimmed milk powder from the outset. This was quickly followed by whey powder and its derivatives, such as lactose and whey protein concentrates. Since then, the cooperative has evolved into a modern food manufacturer with a broad product portfolio, extending far beyond Bavaria’s borders. Innovative products of the highest quality continue to play a central role. Under the Paladin brand, for example, high-quality cheese specialties like the new High Protein Cheese are produced. The Ingredients division is also particularly strong: BMI is a global market leader in organic whey derivatives and one of Germany’s largest processors of liquid whey.

BMI has been an IHK member since its founding in 1952. During the ceremony, in addition to the honoring of BMI, the discussion primarily focused on managing the current energy crisis. IHK Lower Bavaria is committed to fostering economic networking in the region, aiming to develop collaborative solutions. “We highly value the excellent exchange on current topics. Especially in challenging times, we are glad to have strong partners in the region,” explained CEO Dr. Thomas Obersojer at the presentation.
